Hello again! I'm back after taking the spring off to devote time to the farm, at the busiest time of the year. Now that it's way too hot to be outside I can resume teaching! Thanks again to all of you that have attended in the past. Your support and encouragement keeps me motivated to become a better instructor and make the classes an experience that you'll tell your friends about.
Some changes have taken place since I last sent out a newsletter. First, many of you know of the demise of the business at which I had been conducting the classes. The doors closed back in February, and a good friend came to my aid with an offer of a new location. The new classroom is in Arlington near Six Flags.
Speaking of location, I am always on the lookout for other meeting rooms and such around the Metroplex to extend my reach. If you know of such a place anywhere in D/FW, I welcome your suggestions!
I am constantly trying to improve the course material, and will be putting together new offerings this year. I'll be starting July with the first class for ladies only. I'll try to do that at least once a month, both for the Fundamentals and Safety and the Concealed Handgun License classes. I have also just purchased a number of new pistols for student use as an optional convenience. If you are interested in attending a class but do not have access to a handgun of your own, I will provide one for you to use along with one box of ammunition for $25. I am working on a "Fundamentals II" class that will pick up where the Fundamentals class leaves off... at the range! Become a Better Shot Without Firing a Shot! The only way to excel at most things is to practice. Unfortunately for most of us spending a lot of time and money at the range on a frequent basis isn't easy. But there is a way you can dramatically improve your shooting skills without the expense and only a few minutes of spare time. Dry-fire practice! Dry-firing is the act of repeatedly practicing your grip, stance, sight picture, breathing, trigger squeeze and follow-through without using live ammunition. Dry-firing your gun on an empty chamber is considered by some to be a "no-no" for a couple of reasons. Older guns could actually sustain damage to the firing pin and other parts without a cartridge in the chamber to protect them. The gun just wasn't designed to work that way. Another reason is that of safety. Habitually picking up your gun and "snapping" it could lead to bad habits and mistakes.
